Laryngeal Cancer

Squamos cell cancers that affect the voice box (larynx) are known as laryngeal cancers. Patients who are affected will experience throat and ear pain with unexplained origins in most cases. Smokers and heavy drinkers are at a higher risk for developing Laryngeal Cancer than other patients who do not practice these habits.

Other symptoms of this cancer include hoarseness that does not go away, a lump on the next that is unexplained and trouble swallowing. When these symptoms appear in a patient, the tests that might be performed will include a physical examination of any external symptoms, a Laryngoscopy, a biopsy of affected tissue, an endoscopy, a CT scan or an MRI. These tests, used in combination with blood tests, will allow for a complete diagnosis of Laryngeal Cancer.

Prognosis depends on the particular patient, their general health and the stage and location of the specific cancerous cells.
